Lying under the bottlebrush trees
I gaze at the stars twinkling high in the sky
And sometimes I also see an occasional meteor
Everyday the moon shines with a different crest and glow
And when it’s absent, it is as though the galaxy is descending below!
Sometimes I spot a bat soaring around, probably in search of food
Or a flock of nocturnal birds, flying at night and resting during the day.
The crickets keep chirping on and on, creating a background hum
One can also hear croaking frogs, not too far away.
Shadows are cast as the huge trees gently sway in the wind.
Sometimes there is a random crackle of a twig or hustle in the leaves.
At times the winds blow so hard, as though bringing a storm.
And on other days the breeze is just strong blowing my hair strands away
Occasionally there is a light breeze with a whiff of the flowers around
And on some days the air is completely still as though tight in a vacuum.
The lights around cast a mellow golden sheen
And cuts into rays, while traversing through the trees.
All around, there is thick, lush green grass
Around a pond and a gurgling stream
Sometimes, I can hear some traffic noise or a blaring horn
But I am at a distance, both physically and mentally, away from the rush and chatter
After a busy day of work, this is the place to pause and rest
Just as the granite below as well cools down after heating up during the day
Lying here, there is no rush or hurry
I can be here for as long as I want, few minutes or hours maybe..
It is as though here, time slows down
And even the falling leaves glide down at their own pace
Here the mind either races or lingers on new ideas
Or just hums some song which I didn’t even know, I knew
Just being here, brings a sense of calm.
Lying under the bottlebrush trees, I feel I am at peace 😇
